The Problem
Like most Universities, Inscape has a student portal for uploading projects and accessing necessary documentation and information. InConnect can also be used to apply for courses through their official website and access courseware on Offsite.
Unfortunately, trying to navigate all these different sites can be a nightmare. Looking out of the perspective of a student signing in, trying to apply, uploading projects and accessing courseware is challenging.

My challenge is to redesign Inscape's student portal InConnect to make it easier to navigate the dashboard and access their briefs
There are too many Menus.
Side menu and top menu
Discriptions are confusing.
What is the difference between Academic Documentation vs. Academic Content?
Accessing courseware is very tedious and dificult

Averages displays uneccesarily large
Why can't briefs be submitted on the dashboard?
Paid and bills due are not visible on the dashboard

Negative User Journey
Based on my user research I created the user journey to help me see where the biggest problems lie in the user experience.

Workflow Redesign
During my research, I came across a student portal redesign project by UX designer Vlad Balashoff for BYU Idaho. He found that the portal does not provide the relevant resources and information, making it difficult for them to use. From his research, something that stood out to me was that all essential information must be visible to the students. He found that students never used anything below the top navigation. Students never used the side navigation and missed vital resources. If resources are hard to find or access, students will give up looking for them.

I applied this to my redesign InConnect. By illuminating all the different menus and Offsite, focusing on a dashboard design to make it easier to find courseware (as well as everything else).
